Course Description
This course explores the complex history of the Samaritans, a group often misunderstood and even despised in biblical times. We will delve into their origins, their relationship with the Israelites, and their significance in the context of God’s unfolding plan of salvation. We will examine biblical accounts and historical context to understand why the Jews held such animosity towards the Samaritans, and how Jesus’ interactions with them challenged societal norms and revealed profound truths about God’s grace and mercy.
Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the historical and religious context of the Samaritans.
- Explain the complex relationship between the Jews and the Samaritans.
- Analyze biblical accounts involving Samaritans, including the parables and interactions of Jesus.
- Discuss the significance of the Samaritans in God’s plan of salvation and the transition from the Old to the New Testament.
- Reflect on the lessons learned from the Samaritan story about prejudice, compassion, and the nature of true worship.
Certification
All students will receive an OSB certificate on completion.
Course Data
Level of study: Level 2 – Though no prior qualifications are required it would be best if you have at least basic literacy skills, as you may be required to write small assignments.

Assignments: You will need to complete an end of course assessment.
Requirements: This course is online based so you will need access to a computer. Most communications will be by email but if you need to speak to the tutor direct that will not be a problem. You will need a bible a concordance and a bible dictionary. If you do not have these you can access online versions from within your student dashboard.
